Urban Roots is a youth development organization that uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of young people and increase access to healthy food in Austin. Urban Roots provides paid internships to Austin youth, age 14-17, to work on their 3.5 acre urban sustainable farm in East Austin. Each year, they have a goal of growing 30,000 pounds of produce with the Urban Roots community of youth, community volunteers, and staff.
During the 25 week spring and summer youth program, youth Interns develop essential life and job skills while growing food for the Austin community. Through their dynamic and holistic program, Urban Roots youth Interns grow into some of Austin’s youngest leaders, advocating for a sustainable and healthy food system for all.
